Startup India is a flagship initiative of the Government of India aimed at catalyzing the startup
culture and fostering a robust, inclusive ecosystem for innovation and entrepreneurship across the
country.
Launched on 16th January 2016, the Startup India initiative has introduced a series of programs
designed to support entrepreneurs, strengthen the startup ecosystem, and transform India into a
nation of job creators rather than job seekers. These programs are implemented by a dedicated
Startup India Team, operating under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal
Trade (DPIIT).
The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), through the Startup
India initiative, has implemented various projects and institutionalized recurring programs to
accelerate the growth of the Indian startup ecosystem.
Benefits Provided under Startup India
Self-Certification Compliance: Startups can self-certify compliance with labor and
environmental laws, reducing the regulatory burden.
Tax Exemptions: Income Tax Exemption for 3 consecutive years out of the first 10 years
since incorporation.
Easier Public Procurement Norms: DPIIT-recognized startups are eligible to bid for
government tenders without prior experience or turnover requirements.
Startup India Hub: A one-stop platform for startup-related queries, knowledge resources,
and networking opportunities.
Fund of Funds for Startups (FFS): Managed by SIDBI, this fund provides financial support
to startups through SEBI-registered Venture Capital Funds.
IPR Benefits: Fast-tracking of patent applications, 80% rebate on patent filing fees and
50% on trademark filing fees and Support from facilitators for filing intellectual property.
Global Market Access: Support for international exposure and participation in global
events, helping startups expand their market reach.
